Tiller Trouble

Our carpenter friend 'Kenny' adopted our 50-year-old Leisure 17 tiller over the weekend to give it a bit off love. It was stripped down with a random orbital sander starting with 40-grit, it was then finished up by hand, sanding with the grain. Our friend thinks that it is Mahogany.

It has a few surface cracks and filled areas, so it has had a few knocks and bruises over its life! We will be using it as a template to make either:

1) A new solid tiller, 2) A new laminated Sapele and ash tiller, 3) A foam-core and carbon-fibre tiller

We'll also make a stainless/aluminium tiller as an emergency back-up/for unexpected severe weather!
