Captains log, 4th June, 2024…
We have been fighting the wind and rain and are continuing to prepare Poppet for her giant 3000-mile Atlantic Adventure. She is back in her recently repaired boatshed, ready for a fresh coat of paint, which will quickly be followed by a new mast, boom, and rigging from Z-Spar UK and STA-LOK.
Once rigged, our friends at Barton Marine will supply her with modern deck hardware, and WillMyBoatFloat (Walton on the Naze) will complete her rewire with modern Raymarine instruments and LiFePO4 batteries.
Our Skipper (Chief of Shouting), JK Habbershaw, has been busy. He recently visited Knight Frank in Manchester to deliver a presentation about Poppet’s adventures and raised some funds for our favourite charities, too! He also visited Marlec in Corby to see their manufacturing facilities and collected a Rutland 504 Windcharger, which they have kindly donated to our cause.
First Mate (Chief of Ballast), Farris Collins, has been carrying out some arts and crafts. He is building a mini Poppet, ‘Moppet’, to participate in the cardboard boat race at Seawork 2024 in Southampton. Farris also collected our emergency Pains Wessex flare package from Wescom. We hope that he will not need them during the Cardboard Boat Race!
Thank you for reading our update. Please don’t forget to share our adventure with your friends, family, and colleagues. We aim to raise £100,000 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Mind, MS-UK, and St Helena Hospice.
